Artist Statement

I was born and raised in New Orleans, a very distinct city that left an indelible impression on me and my aesthetic outlook.  My experience growing up and living, working, playing in/on/around the water is still with me every day.

My work as an artist informs my work as an art administrator, and my museum work informs my work as an artist.

Perhaps because I have worked around Clarence Carter's work for a few years now, I saw the egg as complete as it sat on my studio table.  After all, the ostrich egg is the largest single cell on the planet.  What could I bring to it?

My "Suspended Travel" series deals with the human experience after life changing events - death, divorce, natural disasters, etc.  Life stands still - no motion forward or after.  We assess our lives as we sift through the vestiges of what remains.  Often we have no choice as to the remnants we are left with.  However, they become precious none-the-less.
